Our Tuscan terracotta pots
Our pots are made with Galestro, a clay from Impruneta and Siena, near Florence. With its soft pinky-red colour and subtle grainy texture, Glalestro has been used by craftsmen for more than 500 years, making the Italian region world-renowned for the finest quality terracotta artisanry.
Galestro clay contains high levels of iron oxide and calcium salts from limestone marls, creating a terracotta that supremely porous yet remarkably tough. The firing process takes two days to reach 1,000°C, followed by 12 hours of cooking at peak temperature. Each pot takes six weeks to make, from start to finish, and it’s these centuries old techniques enable Vaso Toscano pots frostproof, and able to withstand the UK's cold, harsh winters.
Over time, the pots will change colour, as it ages with the environment and life around it. But with proper care, our handmade Italian terracotta pots will last for decades.
Our Partnership with the National Trust
We are delighted to be collaborating with the National Trust, especially in their special 130th anniversary year.
To celebrate, we have curated a collection of six traditional Tuscan pots that are inspired by the wonderful historic houses and gardens within the care of the National Trust.
Each pot and vase is made by hand and in limited numbers using local Galestro – a high-quality Italian clay which is frost-proof, and able to sustain the force of the British weather, year-round.
The collection was first shown at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, with a proportion of every sale from this collection going to the National Trust for future conservation work.
