Vaso Smerlo
£595.00

We have named this beautiful pot Vaso Smerlo — the Scallop Vase, for its unique wavy pattern and scallop edge. Handmade exclusively for us in Impruneta, Tuscany, Vaso Smerlo is a 70 cm–wide terracotta pot added to our Chelsea Collection in 2025. Crafted from traditional Galestro clay and frostproof for year-round use, its highly unusual, elegant pattern makes it especially striking with spring bulbs such as tulips and narcissus. Perfect for a delicate arrangement of spring and summer flowers, Vaso Smerlo brings refined Italian craftsmanship and timeless charm to any garden or terrace.

Each pot is expertly hand made and fired to a high temperature, producing a strong breathable terracotta of superb quality, this helps promote a healthy root aeration while resisting frost damage. The natural, rich Galestro terracotta develops a graceful patina over time, enhancing the aesthetic of plantings without compromising structural integrity. With meticulous quality control and a wide range of sizes and designs, our pots offer reliable performance and timeless elegance for both professional landscapers and home gardeners worldwide.

Vaso Grande Con Anelli
£1,595.00

One of our absolute favourite large pots. Con Anelli means with rings, the Vaso Grande is a magnificent terracotta pot of enormous proportions, its tall and elegant and perfect for planting trees and shrubs. This beautiful large pot stands at 77cm in height, so there is plenty of space for the roots of trees and shrubs to grow. Two of these elegant terracotta pots would look magnificent either side of an entrance planted with large topiary trees such as Bay trees, Laurus nobilis and underplanted with spring colour. What a grand entrance that would make.

The Vaso Grande is a perfect pot design for our Chelsea terracotta pot collection, it is inspired by the grand old oak doors with huge brass knockers that adorn those magnificent Italian doorways. This large and beautiful terracotta pot is an exclusive design made especially for Vaso Toscano for the UK.

Orcio Ornato
£1,695.00

An absolutely stunning Oil Jar with such a wonderfully elegant proportion and a beautifully detailed swirl pattern, evocative of those ancient Roman and Greek Ionic capitals which instantly transport us to the Mediterranean.

Ciotola Con Bordo
£450.00

What a fabulous new design this is to add to our Chelsea terracotta collection. This large terracotta bowl is perfect for planting bulbs and seasonal flowers and has a beautiful old fashioned roll top rim, which makes handling very practical. As with all our beautiful terracotta pots from Tuscany, these bowls are crafted by hand using centuries old techniques.

Each Vaso Toscano pot bears the unmistakable imprint of skilled Tuscan artisans, the subtle variations in the mineral rich colour, the gentle irregularities of hand-formed curves, and the fine textured surface that comes from shaping Galestro clay by hand rather than by machine. These nuances make every piece a one-of-a-kind, no two pots age identically, and the way light plays across the fired terracotta highlights the individuality of each shape and finish.

How our large pots are made

Our terracotta pots are handmade with the finest Galestro clay, extracted from the very ground beneath the famous potteries of Impruneta near Florence. The soft pink colour, subtle grainy texture and superior strength is why Glalestro has been used by craftsmen for more than 500 years, making this Italian region world-renowned for the finest quality terracotta products.

Galestro clay contains high levels of iron oxide and calcium salts from limestone marls, creating a terracotta that is naturally porous (very important for plant root health) and exceedingly strong. The firing process will take two days to reach its 1,000°C temperature, followed by 12 hours of firing. Each pot will take approximately six weeks to make, from start to finish, and it’s these centuries old trusted techniques that help Vaso Toscano pots withstand the extreme temperatures that the British climate has to offer.

Over time, the terracotta pot will develop a beautiful patina giving it character, charm and that Tuscan timeless quality, with simple care our handmade Italian terracotta pots will last for decades.

The Chelsea 2026 Collection

Various large terracotta flower pots containing blooming flowers, placed on a brick circular patio in a garden, with a house and trees in the background.

We are delighted to be celebrating the launch of the Chelsea 2026 Collection.

To celebrate, we have curated a collection of six traditional large terracotta pots, drawing inspiration from timeless garden design and classic architecture.

Each pot and vase is made by hand and in limited numbers using local Galestro – a high-quality Italian clay that is frost-proof and able to withstand the British weather year-round.

Sustainable, traditional methods

Handmade production is low-waste and resource-efficient. Local sourcing of Galestro clay reduces transport impact, and traditional firing methods are optimized for durability rather than disposability.

The result is an ethically crafted product that respects craft heritage while meeting modern performance needs.

About Vaso Toscano

Vaso Toscano is a family-run business and for over a decade we have been the trusted source for authentic handmade terracotta pots from Tuscany.

Owner and horticulturalist, Julie, spent many years working and exhibiting at the world famous RHS Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows with the award winning Todd’s Botanics plant nursery. On a quest to find excellent terracotta pots for her own garden in the UK, Julie used her love and knowledge of Italy to source the perfect terracotta pots for her garden. Vaso Toscano was launched in 2015 as a passion project, through our love of Italy, horticulture and Tuscan pottery.
